Terminology

Kaicho - President or chairman of a martial arts organization

Hanshi - The Highest teaching title in martial ways; only those who have already attained the 8th, 9th or 10th degree black belt are eligible for this title.

Kyoshi - Teaching license the second highest martial title; A fully licensed master level teacher.

Shihan - Licensed Instructor High level or master teacher

Renshi - The first honorary teaching title issued. Man of high Attainment, The lowest teaching license.

Sensei - Teacher Instructor

Sempai - Senior class member, they are looked to for leadership

Dojo - Training hall, a place where “the way” is practiced; more sacred than a mere gym, it is treated as almost hallowed ground.

Kancho - Superintendent or Dojo chief, The director of the club
